Internet chatter predicting the Superbowl Winners...

Superbowl LogoIn my mind, this is pure inspiration. A company name Infegy has used data collected from internet trends to predict the outcome of this years Super Bowl. Finding that the team with the most internet chatter the month before the game each of the last four years has won the Super Bowl, they have predicted the Green Bay Packers will be victorious.

Reading this information while watching the Packers score two touchdowns may have been coincidence but it certainly sparked interest. As much as I'd get a kick out of predicting the future, what I truly find inspiring about this prediction is the idea that someone thought outside the box enough to put this together. I'm the type of person to be able to find answers to any question, you give me a problem and I will find a solution but the idea of looking at such a large amount of data available such as internet trends and looking for answers to questions that don't pertain directly to that information is beyond my usual thinking.

I see many reasons why this data could point to the accurate results including the fact that it's normal for the better team to be talked about more and that a team will have a bigger drive  for the win with the support behind them. We'll have to see whether this prediction makes it five years in a row and what happens next year. In the mean time I will be thinking about what other predictions we can make with internet chatter trends. Winning lottery numbers maybe...
